Profile:
In September of 1998, the online greeting card service Care-Mail.com, was launched. Its mission was to be the leading provider of fun and friendly online greeting cards that benefited the environment. Due to overwhelming popularity and positive response to Care-Mail, additional free services such as email, headline news, shopping and community were added and Care2.com was formed in September 1999. Care2.com was the first and is now the largest online community for environmentally conscious consumers. The Care2.com website offers easy, innovative ways for individuals to make an impact in the world and in their lives through everyday use of the Internet. Based in Menlo Park, CA and with over 1.4 million members worldwide, Care2.com is committed to serving the interests of people who care to help the environment and lead a healthier lifestyle.

Care2.com offers free, personalized e-mail accounts. Each and every e-mail that is sent contributes to a donation to environmental partners such as National Wildlife Federation, Defenders of Wildlife and Environmental Defense.

e-Cards
Care2.com offers over 4,000 free electronic greeting cards to send for birthdays, just for fun, international holidays and more.

Channels
The new Green Living and Eco-Info Channels will provide Care2.com's members and visitors with a variety of useful tools and resources. A brief description of the Green Living Channels is below:

Money Personal finance channel devoted to socially responsible investing and making the most meaningful use of your money. Care2.com also partners with Yellow Brix and ENN to deliver up to the minute worldwide headline and environmental news.

Care2.com has affiliations with some of the leading online merchants such as J.Crew, PlanetRx and Amazon.com. Care2.com donates 10% of its revenues to its environmental partners.

Community
Care2.com is the leading online environmental community with offerings such as green lifestyle tips, discussions, eco-trivia and featured events.

Environmental Partnerships
Care2.com donates 10% of its revenues to leading environmental non-profit organizations. In addition, 100% of revenues from online races such as Race for the Rain Forest and Race for the Big Cats are donated to specific non-profit environmental partners. Environmental Defense
Environmental Defense is a not-for-profit environmental advocacy group with four main goals: (1) Stabilizing the Earth's climate, (2) Safeguarding the world's oceans, (3) Protecting human health, and (4) Defending and restoring biodiversity.
National Wildlife Federation
The NWF focuses on five core areas (Endangered Habitat, Water Quality, Land Stewardship, Wetlands and Sustainable Communities), and pursues a range of Educational projects and Activist, Advocacy and Litigation initiatives within these core areas.
Defenders of Wildlife
Defenders of Wildlife is dedicated to the protection of all native wild animals and plants in their natural communities. Defenders of Wildlife also advocate new approaches to wildlife conservation that will help keep species from becoming endangered.
Friends of the National Zoo
Friends of the National Zoo is dedicated to providing biological education, to protecting the environment, and to serving the needs of visitors and the community for high-quality recreational experiences.
The Nature Conservancy
The Nature Conservancy's (TNC) mission is to preserve plants, animals and natural communities that represent Earth's diversity by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. Founded in 1951, TNC is the world's leading private, international conservation group, preserving habitats and species worldwide by saving the lands and waters they need to survive.
Wildlife Conservation Society
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is dedicated to being the most effective conservation organization, protecting and promoting a world rich in wildlife and wilderness. For more than a century, WCS has inspired care for nature, pioneered environmental education programs, and helped sustain biological diversity. Throughout its rich history, WCS has remained anintegral part of New York City's cultural life and a leader in teaching biology and science in both the U.S. and worldwide


The Light-Green Market Opportunity:

  • The 'light-green' market is just beginning to be recognized globally. The overall buying power of 'light green' consumers is estimated at $546 billion dollars worldwide, according to the Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability Journal www.LOHASjournal.com.

  • According to the most recent tracking poll by Integrated Marketing Services, nearly 50% of U.S. consumers scan products for environmental labeling before they reach the checkout counter. And, half of consumers surveyed say they switch the product brands they purchase (from household cleansers and paper products to cars and computers) based on environmental criteria.

  • Eighty-seven percent of Americans are concerned about the environment, according to Environmental Research Associates.

  • This growing 'green' consciousness is also evident in a recent National Quorum study that reports 64 percent of Americans are incorporating green thinking into their personal lifestyles.
