MeltDown Systems, LLC
is an industry leader in the development of high speed serial
bus host adapter cards and peripherals. The company's products,
which are sold globally through Original Equipment Manufacturers
(OEM) and resellers, allow users of older desktop and laptop computers
to add FireWire and USB connectivity to their system. Founded
on October 30th, 1998 as a hardware developer of FireWire and
USB technologies for the Macintosh and PC platforms, the company
has developed a wide array of FireWire Products for the mobile
and desktop user included; FireWire Cardbus PC Card, FireWire
6-port Hub Repeater, FireWire PCI 2-port Card, FireWire/USB PCI
Combo Card, and FireWire>IDE Drive Enclosure.
What is FireWire
FireWire is a high speed, low cost, fully digital interface between
consumer peripherals. It has 30 times more bandwidth than USB,
which makes it the perfect choice for high-speed storage and serious
video capture. Its point-to-point connection makes it ideal for
bringing digital video directly into the computer without the
need to convert the data to analog and degrade the information.
With the introduction of other computer related devices such as
printers, hards disks, CD ROMs and scanners, FireWire allows for
true "plug and play" without the need for messy installations,
device IDs, jumpers, DIP switches, terminators, or complex wiring
schemes. And with "hot plug" and "hot unplug", there is no need
for the device to be powered down before installing or removing
it from the chain of peripherals.

What is USB
USB (Universal Serial Bus) provides a significant improvement
over older serial bus technologies. USB/Low Speed supports keyboards,
mice and other low-end peripherals at 1.5Mbps and USB/High Speed
supports 12Mbps for peripherals like storage devices, cameras,
and other high speed consumer peripherals. USB supports "hot
plug" and "hot unplug", which means devices can
be connected or removed from your computer without the need to
power down. And USB can support up to 127 devices simultaneously,
so there is no need to worry about the number of peripherals you
plan to attach to your computer.
