NetBackup Servers & Clients

How many systems require backup and recovery protection?
NetBackup Servers control all backup operations and are required for all systems that manage attached backup hardware (tape or disk).

NetBackup Clients send data across the network to a NetBackup Master/ Media Server to be stored.


Indicate the number and type of backup servers:
Master/Media Servers (one required)
Controls all data protection operations and backs up both local data and Client data to direct- or SAN-attached storage.

One required system will be designated the Master Server during installation.

SAN Media Servers
Backs up only local data to SAN-attached storage. SAN Media Servers can not backup Client data.

Clients
Clients protect systems by sending data across the network to a NetBackup Master or Media Server for storage. NetBackup Servers do not require a Client license to protect local data.
